About Sthembiso Madlala

Founder and Executive Director
Sthembiso Madlala is a public participation specialist and a social engagement practitioner. He is the former Programmes manager at the Democracy Development Program (DDP) and the Diakonia Council of Churches respectively.

He has worked with various municipalities specializing in public participation and stakeholder engagement and has produced many academic papers on the subject of Public Participation in Local Government. He has also assisted many municipalities to develop and implement Public Participation strategies and policies. Mr. Madlala represents the civil society sector in various platforms such as the KZN Economic Council where he has been serving as convener for the civil society sector since its inception. He also represents civil society in the KZN Human Resource Council. In 2017 he was appointed the chairperson of Tourism in KZN a position he is still holding.

Sthembiso is the Executive Director of the Association of Social Engagement Facilitators of Southern Africa (ASEFSA) the only regulatory and accrediting body for Social Engagement Facilitators in Southern Africa and founder of the Institute for Social Engagement Facilitation in Southern Africa(ISEFSA)
Mr. Madlala is also the founder and director of the South African Non Profit Organizations Excellence Awards (SANPO Awards) . A former educator, political analyst, social activists and a published author Sthembiso currently serves in various boards of Civil society formations.
